Knesset delegations tour UK

Two delegations of Knesset members visited the UK as part of an awareness-raising tour in early November 2009.

 

The delegates met with Memers of Parliament, as well as representatives of business, faith and local leadership. In addition, MKs Chaim Oron and Anastasia Michaeli visited the Jewish Free School in London and led a vibrant question-and-answer session on the importance of the democratic process and the responsibilities of governing Israel to a packed hall.

 

Further visits are planned in the near future.


Ambassador speaks at Northwood and Pinner Synagogue

Ambassador Prosor continued his programme of visits to synagogues across Britain with a speaking engagement at Northwood and Pinner Synagogue. Speaking candidly from his own experiences, HE Prosor outlined the successes, opportunities and challenges facing Israel as a modern state - as well as the successes, opportunities and challenges of representing Israel on the world stage.

 


Ambassador Ron Prosor in Nottingham

3-4 November 2009

As part of the continuing ‘Embassy Without Borders’ programme, the Ambassador and new Director of Public Affairs Michael Brodsky visited Nottingham this week. Welcomed by the Lord Mayor, Ambassador Prosor met with business leaders, media, University representatives and the director of the Beth Shalom Holocaust Centre.

 

The Ambassador delivered keynote lectures to two packed houses. The Jewish Representative Council and JNF hosted the Jewish community on Monday night – and on Tuesday at Nottingham University a handful of protestors were drowned out by deafening applause from the hundreds of students who turned out in support.

Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister, Daniel Ayalon, visited London for an intensive series of meetings and discussions with business leaders and politicians in October 2009. Minister Ayalon also delivered a keynote lecture to a capacity audience at the London School of Economics, engaging honestly and openly with students from across the political spectrum. 

 

Minister Ayalon met with Foreign Office Minister Ivan Lewis. In a productive meeting, both Ministers agreed on the need to make progress towards a two-state solution, the UK government's commitment to opposing boycott campaigns against Israel, and the building of continuously closer links between Israel and the UK.
